TITLE:                                            Special Education Teacher                                                       

 

REPORTS TO:                     Principal or Director of Special Education                                        

 

LENGTH OF CONTRACT OR WORK YEAR:             9 months (187 days)                          

 

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Writes benchmark and goal-aligned IEPs for students.
  2. Conducts IEP meetings as needed to amend/review/revise student schedules or accommodations, to add or revise FBAs and/or behavior plans and for all other reason stated in rules and regulations.
  3. Becomes familiar with Mississippi IDEA regulations and adheres to them.
  4. Participates in IEP reviews with special education teachers in upper and lower adjacent grades and plans a smooth transition for students for the next year.
  5. Teaches and supervises activities in special education and inclusion settings.
  6. Provides IEP goal and accommodation sheets, for each student on the special education teacher's roster, to all teachers who teach the students.
  7. Completes paperwork by deadlines given by building principal and/or Student Support Office.
  8. Records student progress on IEP and sends it to parents at least quarterly.
  9. Confers frequently with regular education teachers about Special Education students.
  10. Follows all regulations set forth in the regular education teachers’ job description.

 

                                                                                                                                                           

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in special education.
  2. Must have a valid Mississippi license with endorsement in special education (202 – 224)

                                                                                                                                                           

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Two years experience in special education or elementary classroom.
